Harry J. Smith, 77, Sumner, died Tuesday, March 17, 1987, in his daughter's home in Sumner.

Vsitation and funeral services will be in the Ingram Funeral Home in Albion with Rev. Paula M. Gustafson presiding. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born Aug. 1, 1909, in Edwards County, the son of Sidney and Mary (Green) Smith. He married LaFredia Cowling Feb. 28, 1931, in Albion and she died in 1958. He then married Avalon Wetzel Jan. 3, 1960, and she preceded him in death in 1986.

He was a farmer and former implement dealer.

He was a member of the First Christian Church while in Albion and was presently a member of the Bethleham United Church of Christ in Sumner. He served as deacon in both churches.

Survivors include two sons, Paul Smith, Spokane, Wash.; Loren Smith, Cortland, Ohio; a daughter, Carolyn Hasewinkle, Sumner; a step-daughter, Lavonne Gilpan, Mattoon; two brothers, William and Richard Smith, both of Albion; a sister, Edith Roosevelt, Albion; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and 21 great- grandchildren.
