HOWARD, Reverend James Garfield age 89 of Lebanon, Ohio passed peacefully Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the Otterbein Retirement Community. Born January 16, 1927 in Jackson, kentucky, James was the son of Dock and Dovie (Prater) Howard and was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Throughout his lifetime, James wore many hat. He retired with 30 years of service from General Motors, sold real estate for Far Hills Realty, was an insurance agent with Primerica and drove a school bus for the Lebanon City Schools Transportation. James had lived in Lebanon since 1946 coming from Kentucky. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers John, Huey, Adrian and Garner Howard and sister Elizabeth Taulbee; James leaves behind his loving wife of 66 years Gladys (Baker) Howard of Lebanon, Ohio; sons Gregory Howard of Oregonia, Ohio, David Howard of Lebanon, Ohio and Michael Neil (Staci) Howard of Overland Park, Kansas; daughter Kathy (Wayne) Barber of Springboro, Ohio; brothers Dock Howard, Jr. of South Lebanon, Ohio and Carlon Howard of Blanchester, Ohio; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, March 1, 2016 from 6pm until 8pm at the Stine Kilburn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:30am Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at the First Church of God, 880 Franklin Road, Lebanon, Ohio with Pastor Tracy Stephens offficiating. Burial will follow in the Heritage Hills Memorial Gardens 7370 North State Route 48, Springboro, Ohio.
