He was born in Kingsport and was a lifelong resident. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Johnson was employed by Eastman Chemical with 43 years of service as an electrician. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Alfred and Hazel Johnson, and sister, JoAnne.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 25 years, Pam Barrett Johnson; 3 step-children, Carmen Odum and husband, Steve; Randy Barrett and wife, Andrea; and Josh Carter; 6 grandchildren, Makenna, Jakob, Caden, Chance, Braelyn and Gentry; 2 sisters, Jean Neal; Carolyn Almaroad and husband, Glen; and Shelby McNeil and husband, Dennis; brother, Gary Johnson and wife, Julie; 11 nieces; 9 nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3-5:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 5:00 pm with Rev. Jerry Smith officiating.
The graveside service will be held on Monday at 1:00 pm at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265.
