John was born on July 31, 1928 in Campti, Louisiana to Lee Earl and Bessie Inez Grappe. He grew up in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He attended Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas. John was ordained as a minister in the Assemblies of God in 1957. He was a pastor for 49 years in Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and New Mexico, before retiring. John leaves a marvelous spiritual legacy to his grandsons, who adore him. He was a family man and loved to read God's word.
John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Millie Mimi, who was the apple of his eye; a daughter, Sandra Grappe Sullivan and her husband, Clay A. Sullivan of Wichita Falls; three grandsons and their wives, Rev. John C. and Lori Sullivan of San Angelo, Rev. Matthew L. and Kara Sullivan of Odessa and Zachary J. Sullivan of Wichita Falls; three great-grandchildren, John David, Julia and Aulora Grace Sullivan of San Angelo; six brothers, Douglas Grappe of Winnfield, Louisiana, Charles Grappe of Sarapta, Louisiana, Wilson Grappe of Haughton, Louisiana, Fred Grappe of Ringo, Louisiana, Bernard Grappe of Haughton, Louisiana and Tommy Grappe of Bossier City, Louisiana; and three sisters, Genny Russell of Bossier City, Louisiana, Irene Nichols of Coushatta, Louisiana and Doris Foshee of Robeline, Louisiana.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lee Earl and Bessie Grappe of Natchitoches, Louisiana, an infant son, John Randall Grappe and an infant daughter, Martha Jean Grappe.
The pallbearers will be DeWayne Curtis, Joel Curtis, John Kramer, Paul Kramer, David Grappe and Michael Grappe.
The family suggests memorials be made to the First Assembly of God Missions Fund, 1101 N. Lee Avenue, Odessa, TX 79761.
