Fort Bend Herald, November 29, 2011:

Alois J. Goehring passed away peacefully during his sleep about 1:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at home with his wife, Betty, by his side. The Lord was waiting for him with open arms. Alois was born June 21, 1924 in Yorktown, Texas to Berthold Goehring and Mary Jendrzey Goehring.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers and sisters, Margaret Weber, Cecile Dierks Hotz, Ben Goehring, Edward Goehring, Helen Jenschke, and Dorothy Moore Adams.

Al served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1943 through 1945 as a PFC medical aidman, serving mostly in the Pacific with an infantry company, giving first aid and emergency treatment to the wounded and aided in their transportation to field hospitals. He was awarded the Purple Heart, plus other medals and ribbons.

He came home in 1945 and went to work at the Cole Theatre in Rosenberg, Texas as a projectionest. He met the love of his life, Betty Kruse, who also worked at the same theatre. They were married on June 5, 1948 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg, Texas.

In 1949, their firstborn, Carol, arrived. Soon the little family were transferred to the unincorporated town of Sugar Land where Al became projectionist at the new Palms Theatre. Al trained many young Sugar Land boys to be projectionists. The family grew to a total of five children while living in a little house behind the theatre where Al never had far to walk to work.

In later years, Al worked two jobs to support his family. Along with working at the theatre, he also worked for Sugar Land Grocery Store, then Kroger Grocery, then Lewis & Coker Grocery, from which he retired. The little time off he had, he played with the kids, tried his hand at making furniture, and his hobby was photography, developing and printing his own pictures.

Al and family were life long members of St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Sugar Land. In the early days, he walked early in the mornings to light the heaters in the church for warmth and cleaned the church which he loved to do. He was never without his rosary.

Al leaves behind his wife, Betty, of 63 years; children, Carol Terral and husband, Danny, Angela Kreutzfeldt, Christopher Goehring, Sharon Peirce, and David Goehring and wife, Margarita; and son-in-law, Pete Kreutzfeldt. Grandchildren are Russell Terral, Evan Goehring, John Peirce Jr, Katie Terral, and Jay Garza. Great-grandchildren are Jonathan Duckworth and wife, Diana, Stephen Duckworth, and Rosemary Duckworth. Great-great-granddaughter is Leylah Duckworth, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbears are Evan Goehring, Russell Terral, Lee Boehm, Dave Kiger, Al Ewer, and Pete Kreutzfeldt. Honorary pallbearers are Danny Terral, Christopher Goehring, David Goehring, and John Peirce, Jr.

The family would like to thank Earline Watson, the Basilian Fathers, Mary Stewart, and Al Ewer for their love and support.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, with rosary at 7 p.m. at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer, Houston, Texas. Services will be at noon Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 705 St. Theresa Blvd, Sugar Land, Texas. Burial will follow at Forest Park Westheimer. Afterward, a reception will be held in the community center at St. Theresa's.
