Thelma Lewis was the oldest and one of nine children of Don and Martha [Rather] Lewis of Atwood, KS. She celebrated her 100th birthday in August, 2015, at Colby Health and Rehab. She met Glenn Shalz in Atwood and they were married October 13, 1940, in Goodland, KS.
She was a rural school teacher teaching in Rawlins County. When Glenn started working at the Thomas County National Bank, they moved to Colby. Thelma continued teaching in Rawlins County, where she taught an additional six-and-a-half years. She was a telephone operator for the United Telephone and a bank teller. She also worked as a bookkeeper, did secretarial work and helped at the library in Colby.
