Evelyn Marie O'Rourke (Spicher), born April 23, 1921 and passed away on April 1, 2014. She was born in Earleton, Wilson County, Kansas and passed at an assisted living home in San Juan Capistrano, Orange County, California. The past 10 years Evelyn suffered from failing eyesight, hearing loss and, more recently, serious age related failing health issues. Evelyn's suffering is now over and she received her wings to go see her deceased family members, friends and the good Lord.
Evelyn attended Three Mounds Elementary in Earleton, Kansas and Mills Elementary in Klamath Falls, Oregon before moving with her family to California. Evelyn was a wife, mother, and homemaker who lived in Hawthorne for 60+ years and was married to her husband William (Bill) for 41 years. Evelyn is survived by two children, her sister, plus numerous family and friends. She has six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, a daughter-in-law and a son-in-law .
Evelyn enjoyed arts and crafts, children, family, guitar and piano playing, listening to music, reminiscing, television, trivia, and socializing. Evelyn was self-taught on the piano and could play by ear alone. She was an avid player of many board games, including Yahtzee, Trouble and Pit. She was titled by her family and friends as the Yahtzee Queen. Evelyn liked to celebrate Birthdays, Christmas and Thanksgiving. Evelyn had family and friends from different parts of the United States; California, Arizona, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Oklahoma, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and New Mexico.
Evelyn, prior to failing eyesight, enjoyed reading books, magazines and newspapers.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband William John O'Rourke, son Billy Dwayne O'Rourke; his wife Patricia; and siblings Goldie, Gladys, Johnnie, Harry, Norman, Ora, and Darrel.
Evelyn was well loved by everyone who knew her and will be deeply missed.
