It is not generally known that the late Mrs. Thomas Kilby Smith, who's death occurred on Wednesday, was a writer of verse of more than ordinary worth. It is told that once she published a small volume, a copy of which fell into the hands of John G. Saxe, who was so much impressed with the merit of the work that he returned the volume to her, begging that she put her autograph upon the flyleaf. In return he sent her one of his own collections, similarly inscribed. --
