New York - Juanita Frances (Pryor) Vaughn, 96, passed away to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 8, 2018 in Syracuse, New York. Frances was born in Staunton on December 2,1921, to the late Harry and Myrtle (Abney) Pryor.
She was married to Robert Lee Vaughn in 1938 for 69 years and from their union, they had six children. The family moved to Newark, NJ in 1956 and in 2011 Frances moved to Syracuse, NY.
She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Staunton, Solid Rock Baptist Church in Newark, NJ and New Life Temple of Praise Church in Syracuse, NY.
She retired from the Newark, NJ School District in 1993 after 25 years as a teacher's assistant.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, David L. Vaughn; grandson, Scott L. Armstrong; siblings, Harry Lee, Dora, Oscar, Lester, Archie, William, Wilbert, Blanche, and Abney Pryor and Annabelle Bell.
Frances leaves to cherish her memory, five children, Frances Armstrong (William, Jr.), Dr. Robert R. Vaughn (Frances), Lorraine, Lorretta and Deborah Vaughn; nine grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Lewis Vaughn; a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She will truly be lovingly missed and forever remembered as the great matriarch of her family.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at Community United Methodist Church. Public viewing and family reflections will be from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Burial will be at Thornrose Cemetery.
