Ruby passed peacefully from this life into life eternal at the age of 88 years on February 9, 2016. Her final days were filled with peace and love as she was surrounded and cared for by loved ones and her earthly angels from Life Spring Home Care and the Willows Assisted Living Residence in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Ruby was born in Sasakwa, Oklahoma, on May 18, 1927, to Richard Cefus and Maudie Bell Brown Wheeler. Ruby attended grade school in Sasakwa until her family moved to Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, where she finished her formal education. Afterwards she moved to Oklahoma City where she began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She eventually traveled to California with her older sister Myrtle where they attempted to gain employment as "Rosy Riveters" during War World II, but were refused employment for being too young. Her sister remained and eventually raised her family in California, but Ruby grew homesick and moved back to Oklahoma. Shortly after returning home and upon the end of World War II she met Eugene "Gene" Burns of Geary, Oklahoma. They married on December 21, 1946 at the Olivet Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. After brief stays in El Reno, Oklahoma, Wellington, Kansas, and Edmond, Oklahoma, the couple moved to Davis, Oklahoma, in 1951. There Gene took a job as a foreman for a local ranching operation and Ruby was a home maker and later worked at a local dress shop. Eventually Gene started a career in the oil and gas industry and the couple retired as owners of Burns Oil Company in 2006. The couple made a loving home in Davis for over 50 years while raising their two children, Randolph "Randy" Eugene Burns and Linda Carol (Burns) Readnour.
Ruby enjoyed knitting, quilting, painting, playing cards and dominos, gardening, cooking, sports of all kinds (particularly OU, the Texas Rangers and the OKC Thunder) and spending time with her family.
Ruby was preceded in death by her mother Maudie and father Cefus, her husband Gene, her son Randy, her brother Haskel Wheeler and her sisters Myrtle Lee Wheeler Magness and Daisy Christine Wheeler Black and her beloved son-in-law Gary R. Readnour.
She is survived by her aunts Georgia Becksworth of Sacramento, California, and Mary Smith of Long Beach, California, her brother Jimmy "Wayne" Wheeler of Amarillo, Texas, her daughter Linda, her four grandchildren: Chad Burns of Liberal, Kansas, Keith Readnour and wife Nikki, Kevin Readnour and wife Lauren as well as Kyle Readnour and wife Melanie, all of Pauls Valley. Ruby cherished her thirteen great-grandchildren: Connar, Cennedee, Evan and Khloe Burns all of Liberal, Kansas, and Garrett, Kendall, Malia, Graham, Keira, Kenzi, Dylan, Drew and Derek, all of Pauls Valley. She also leaves behind many loved and loving nieces and nephews.
