Douglas F. Dixon, 82, formerly of Fargo, North Dakota, died February 8, 2016, at the Halstad Living Center, Halstad, Minnesota.

Doug was born on April 2, 1933, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Fredrick and Grace (Sutherland) Dixon. After serving fourteen years in the Navy, he worked at one of the first McDonalds in the country and shared stories about cutting the French fries by hand at 5:00 in the morning. His work life included owning a restaurant, construction, architect work and design, and for the last many years over-the-road truck driving. He had a hand in designing the Pepsi building in Mandan and named that as one of his proudest accomplishments.

He created a loving family with Karen McGurren, whom he married in 1969, adopting her two sons, Chuck and Paul, as his own. Together they had a third son, Robert. They lived several years in Iowa before moving to Bismarck in the 1970’s.

The world has lost a unique man and great storyteller. People who knew him really enjoyed his company. He had a charisma that was definitely his own.

Doug will be greatly missed by his son Robert (Janet) Dixon and grandchildren Joshua and Chantel, all of Bismarck; and sons Chuck Dixon, Mesa, Arizona; and Paul Dixon, Dallas, Texas.

If you have memories or stories about Doug, we’d love to hear them. Please share them on this website for others to read.

If for a moment we reflect on our lives and the lives of the ones we love, we see why life is so beautiful on this earth.

There will be no services and cremation has taken place. The family will hold a private wake at a later date.
