Services for Theodore "Ted" Lee Cooper, 56, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006, at Griffin-Hillcrest Chapel with the Rev. Randy Baptiste officiating. Interment will be at McAlester Cemetery, Overbrook.

Born on Jan. 7, 1950, in Ardmore, to Murrow and Lela Cooper, he died on Sept. 18, 2006, at his home. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arch and Sallie Marris; his father; two sisters, Anita Yellow Eagle and Tracie Cooper.

A 1968 graduate of Ardmore High School, Ted attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University on a baseball scholarship. After college, he was employed by Uniroyal and retired from there after 30 years of service. He was a "people person" and had a great sense of humor. As a child, he began playing baseball on the Little League team the "Lincoln Untouchables." His love of sports continued thorough his adulthood as a player on several local teams, the fastpitch softball teams the "Ardmore Rockets" and the "Ardmore Bucks" and he was a member of the pool association on the "Tribal Reds" team. He also participated in a Choctaw language class where his love of learning and of people showed as he later attended conversation groups to further develop his and his classmates grasp of the Choctaw language.

He and Marilyn Cooper were married on April 19, 2002, in Gainesville, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Teri Spain and husband, Mike, Purcell; son, Trent Cooper and wife, Tonya, Ardmore; mother, Lela Cooper, Lone Grove; a brother, Lance Cooper and wife, Michelle, Duluth, Minn.; sister, Tessa Almond and husband, Rex, Lone Grove; and six grandchildren.

Bearers will be Dennis James, Mark James, Glen James, Arlie Marris, Tony Marris and Wayne Marris. Honorary bearers are Elvin Chapman, Dennis Baptiste, Robert Baptiste and Jay Johnson.

Prayer service is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
