Albert T. Caraker, 74, of Route 1, Herrin, died at 5:50 pm Sunday, May 28, 1989 in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Marion. Services will be in Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home with burial in Herrin City Cemetery. Mr. Caraker was retired from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was born March 24, 1915 in Villa Ridge to Thomas and Kate Pressley Caraker. He married Dorothy Reams in 1935 and she survives. Other survivors include sons, John of Sparta and Tom of Herrin, daughter, Jum Bowen of Herrin, brothers, Joe and Elmer, both of DuQuoin and Johnny of West Frankfort, sisters, Agnes Bush and Flo Pressley, both of West Frankfort, 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Three brothers, three sisters and one grandchild preceded him in death.
