Due to political offenses in 1932 he fled to Brazil for several months before returning to Germany to become the personal Adjutant of Karl Ernst. He was arrested by the SS during the Night of the Long Knives and executed at Lichterfelde on 7/1/1934. His body was cremated and the ashes deposited in the forest cemetery of Niesky.
