DONALD E. EWEN Hobart, Indiana Donald Elmer Ewen, age 85, of Hobart, passed away on Thursday, February 08, 2007. He was born on March 15, 1921 in Black Oak, IN, the son of Henry and Elvira (Larson) Ewen. Don was the owner of Don Ewen's Farm Market in Glen Park and Hobart. He was famous for his delicious sweet corn. Don was also a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church, a former member of the board of directors for the Farm Bureau, Northwest Indiana Food Bank, and the Little Calumet River Basin Commission. Don was a large supporter of Arc Bridges. He enjoyed woodworking using the trees from his land. He loved local history of the Little Calumet River Basin. As a republican, Don ran for the U.S. Congress. Don was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all. Don is survived by his loving family, wife Elinor Ewen, Hobart; children; Melinda Ewen, Los Angeles, CA, Sally (Clarence) Davis, Lake of the Four Seasons, Janet (Craig) Correll, Carlsbad, CA, and Jeffrey Ewen, Indianapolis; grandchildren; Jennifer Summers, Adam Doremire, Christopher, Sheryl, Kelly, and Mark Davis, Eric and Victoria Correll, Caitlind, Cassandra, and Michael Ewen; great grandchildren; Kyle White, Melia Summers, Anna, Grace, and Corina Doremire, and Olivia Davis; brother, Harry (Jeanette) Ewen, Rensselaer; sisters, Ethel Johnson, Hobart, Carol Brenn, Chesterton, and Dorothy (Charles) Sapper, Hobart; and many other loving family and dear friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his son Donny Ewen, brothers; Erwin, Leroy, Howard, James, and Glen Ewen, and sister Mildred Nimetz. Visitation for Don Ewen will be held from 3-8 pm on Friday, February 9, 2007 with prayers and eulogy offered at 7:30 pm at Rees Funeral Home-Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Visitation will also be held from 9 am on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at Rees Funeral Home with prayers at 9:30 am followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 am at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 568 East 2nd Street, Hobart, with Father Dominic Bertino, officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park in Hobart. Memorials in Don's memory may be made to the America's Second Harvest National Food Bank or to Arc Bridges.
