John Joseph (Buddy) Baskas, 83, Leavenworth, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 14, 2005.
He was born on Dec. 17, 1921, in Leavenworth, the son of John (Sheeny Burke) Baskas and Margaret Pike Baskas. On March 23, 1941, he married Mary Margaret Crook. She preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 2004. John is survived by two daughters, Angela Marie Baskas Hacker, and Kathy L. Baskas-Goldak and husband, Mike, all of Leavenworth; one son, John J. "Skip" Baskas and wife, Sharon, Leavenworth; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Francis "Frank" Baskas, Patrick William Baskas, Robert Edward Baskas, Ralph "Porky" Baskas, Michael Charles Baskas and James Anthony Baskas; and sister, Mary Katherine "MK" Baskas. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela Ann Baskas; two brothers, Leo Daniel "Blackie" Baskas and Thomas E. Baskas; and his sisters, Anna (Eileen Becker) Schulte, Lillian (Lily Mae Becker) Hattock and Johanna Marie Baskas. He served in the U.S. Navy. John worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons for 35 years. He then went to work for the city of Leavenworth as a plumbing inspector. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Knights of Columbus and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 55. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, June 16, 2005, at the Davis Funeral Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today with the Rev. David McEvoy. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2005, at the Davis Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Roy Ontiveros of Immaculate Conception/St. Joseph Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be given to the Leavenworth Regional Catholic School System.
