Lena was born on June 9, 1901 in Roanoke, IL a daughter to John A. and Anna Gastman Woltzen. She married Harm deFreese on February 19, 1924 in Benson IL. He died on June 25, 1974.
Surviving is one daughter, Edna (John W.) Meils of Rutland; six grandchildren, Rene` (Duane) Dunham of Woodstock, GA; Craig deFreese of Orlando, FL; Scott (Janet) Meils of Toluca; Joe (Elaine) Meils of Conway Ark; Elaine Meils of Bloomington; Mollie (Steve) Mann of Benson; eight great grandchildren, Ted Dunham, Jordan Pohlman, Ashley Mann, Jessie Meils, Savannah Mann, Conner deFreese, Carrie deFreese, and Austin Mann.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Harold deFreese, three brothers, Albert, Ben and John Woltzen, three sisters, Fannie Woltzen, Anna Oltman, Mary Oltman, and two infant grandchildren.
Lena was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Chruch in Benson where she taught Sunday School and was active in the Ladies Aid.
Lena enjoyed gardening, baking, quilting and crocheting. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by all that knew her.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke. The Rev. William Hecht will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 11:00 am on Thursday before the service. Burial will be at Clayton Township Cemetery in Benson.
