Edward was born in Amsterdam, NY, the son of Edward and Clara (Nareau) Berard and had been a Pawtuxet Valley resident for 60 years. He was married to Exina Therrien. He was employed for 28 years as a calender operator at Interlaken Mills, Arkwright, until his retirement in 1956 due to poor health. He was a veteran of WWI.
