MRS. BENNETT IS
BURIED IN CARTHAGE

Death Came at Home of Sister,
Mrs. W. E. Boswell -- Father
Member of "Quincy Greys."

Carthage, Ill., June 8. -- Mrs. Mary A. Bennett died at the home of her sister, Mrs. W. E. Boswell at 221 South Madison street in this city Wednesday night at 11:15, aged 67 years 5 months and 13 days.

Mary A. Carlin was the daughter of John and Martha Flood Carlin, and was born Dec. 23, 1849, in this city. Her father came here from Quincy with the "Quincy Greys," sent by the state guards to quell the Mormon riot in 1844. The family afterwards made their home in this city. Her brother, James Carlin, was in the navy during the civil war and died on board ship and was brought here for burial.

She was married October 18, 1868, to W. D. Bennett in Carthage, and one daughter, Mabel was born to them. Her daughter was married to Walter O. Hock, Sept. 15, 1900, and died May 5, 1902, in Ottawa, Kas., and was brought to this city for burial.

Mrs. Bennett made her home in this city until about eight years ago when she moved to Keokuk. On Dec. 29 last, she fell and broke her ankle, a most painful accident, which caused a stroke of paralysis three days later. She was taken to the hospital and remained until Feb. 17, when she was brought to the home of her sister, Mrs. W. E. Boswell in this city. She seemed to improve until about two weeks ago, since then she failed rapidly.

She had a very kindly and lovable nature always helping the poor and afflicted.

She leaves one sister, Mrs. Martha Boswell, one brother, Lewis C. Carlin of Los Angeles, Cal., one niece, Mrs. Milton Horner of Dallas City, three nephews, James R. Boswell of Montreal, Canada, Edward R. Boswell of this city and Harrison Boswell of Boston, Mass., and one niece, Miss Violet Boswell of this city.

The funeral was held at the home of her sister, Mrs. W. E. Boswell, this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev. Edwards, pastor of the M. E. church in Keokuk, officiated. Interment was in Moss Ridge cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Marsh of Bowen, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Horner of Dallas and Mr. and Mrs. W. A. McCoy, attended the funeral.
