Ernest Roy DeMaranville, 75, of Leavenworth County, passed into his eternal rest on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born at home on a farm in Linwood, Kan., on April 18, 1940, the son of Ralph Ernest and Goldie Bernice (Hipsher) DeMaranville.

He attended a one-room elementary school and graduated from Winchester High School in 1958. Ernest served in the Kansas National Guard for six years. He completed training at Missouri Valley Welding School and worked at Hallmark Cards for 34 years. He also farmed all of his life.

On June 27, 1960, Ernie married Carolyn Schmidling. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his children, Gail DeMaranville-Zule, Rita (Tim) Herken, Richard (Lisa) DeMaranville, Mark (Carol) DeMaranville, Paul (Sherry) DeMaranville and Joshua (Jenni) DeMaranville; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; his mother in-law, Irene Schmidling; two brothers, Robert Daryl (Linda) DeMaranville and David (Kelli) DeMaranville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his father in-law, Vincent Schmidling, his son in-law, Dean Zule, a great-grandson, Frankie DeMaranville and a niece, Melissa DeMaranville.

He was an active member of St. Joseph-St. Lawrence parish, where he served on the parish council. He was a devoted Catholic, husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle. His love of Jesus, family and farming were his life.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. with praying the rosary at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, at St. Joseph of the Valley Catholic Church with Rev. Keith Lunsford as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph – St. Lawrence Parish or Catholic Community Hospice.
