On February 1, 2016, surrounded by loving family at home, God decided Ms. DollBaby’s suffering from a long battle with COPD should end, and she answered His call to “come home.”

Ms. DollBaby was born March 31, 1931 to Buck Higgins and Stella (Swayzer) Higgins in Winnsboro, Louisiana, where she spent her childhood and early adult life. She moved to Oakland, California in early 1951 and resided there among numerous relatives and friends until relocating to Yakima, Washington in 1988 to assist in the care of her Aunt Laura and other relatives. She spent the remainder of her life in Yakima where she became a member of the Mount Hope Baptist Church and served faithfully as a trustee and choir member. She joined the local chapter of the NAACP where she assisted in any way she was asked. She enjoyed being involved in community activities and social engagements with many close friends, and always looked forward to her many visits back to California and Texas to visit various family members. She loved watching sports on TV, especially her favorite two sports teams, the Golden State Warriors and the Oakland Raiders.

She leaves to cherish her memory seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; one son-in-law Gary Cooke of Oakland, CA; one daughter-in-law Carol Shead of Fort Worth, TX, plus her “second family,” the Huey/Garner’s with whom she resided for the last 13 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters and two brothers; her three children: Gwendolyn Haile in 2007; Virgie Cooke in 2012 and Lucius Caston in 2013; one granddaughter Andrea Allen in 2009; and her special friend Johnny Rance in 2004.

We will miss Ms. DollBaby, but we know that she is now at peace in her heavenly home surrounded by her parents, all her siblings and her three children; even though she is gone, she will live on in our hearts.

Graveside Services will be Friday, February 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
