Oscar R. Maples
Kermit - Services for Oscar R. Maples, 72, owner of Maples Funeral Home in Kermit, were 10 a.m. Friday in the Community Church with burial in the Kermit Cemetery, directed by Maples Funeral Home.
Maples died of an apparent heart attack Wednesday in a local hospital.
Maples, who was born in 1901, moved to Winkler County from Snyder in 1943. In 1944, he built the present Maples Funeral Home in Kermit. He had purchased the Kolar Funeral Home in Wink in 1943.
Maples was also a partner in the Marshall-Maples Furniture Store. He served in the U. S. Navy and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Community Church.
He married Rossa Carmichael in 1940.
Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Theresa Payne of Washington, D. C., and Marilyn Tarter of Grand Prairie; a son, Max Maples of the home; two brothers, Max Maples of Taft and Loren Maples of Graham; two sisters, Ruth Wheimhold of Levelland and Mrs. Max Anz of Abilene; and two grandchildren.
