Our beloved and precious wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend returned home to her Heavenly Father after a long and courageous battle with diabetes. Surrounded by her family and sweetheart, John, she passed peacefully in her sleep on February 1, 2016.

Born to Louis Alma Kelsch and Susannah Marriott Barlow on April 27, 1940.

Married to John Robert Butchereit on September 10, 1960 and sealed to John and her children in the Salt Lake Temple on February 19, 1970.

Preceded in death by her sister, Sharyn (2013), survived by her husband, John R.; children, John L., Daniel, and Kimberly (Lisa); grandchildren, Marissa, Ryan, and Abbey; and siblings, Gerry, Carolyn, Donald, Shirlee, Glen, Beverly, and Randee.

The oldest of nine, Joyce learned the responsibilities of motherhood as a young girl when her mother returned to work when she was a teenager and she became the caretaker for her younger siblings. Remembered by them as a joyful, fun-loving caretaker who could calm the spirit of any child, yet could be a firm parent when needed.

As a wife and mother, Joyce enjoyed the colorful side of life, time spent with her family, especially at the holidays, and just having fun. She and John enjoyed square dancing together for fifteen years and, later in life, fulfilled a dream of traveling to Europe on a Mediterranean cruise. She delighted in vacations with family, going camping, taking road trips, and picnics. She worked as a secretary at Fashion Cabinets Mfg. for many years.

A faithful member of the LDS Church, she returns home to her mother and father's loving arms and will be remembered and loved, always be her family, to whom she gave so much light, love and happiness too.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Taylorsville Stake Center, 4845 Woodhaven Drive, Taylorsville. Viewings will be held on Friday, February 5, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Mortuary, 1007 West South Jordan Parkway (10600 South), South Jordan, and prior to the services at the church on Saturday from 10:00-10:45 a.m.
Interment at Elysian Burial Gardens.
