Michael Alexander Nixon, 26, a resident of Strasburg, VA, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, Woodstock, VA.

A funeral service for Michael will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Bill Nabers and Rev. Sonya Williams-Giersch officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg.

Michael was born on May 14, 1989, a son of John Elwood and Melody Wright Nixon.

He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and a 2007 graduate of Strasburg High School. He was an active member of the Strasburg Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Strasburg Volunteer Fire Department.

Michael was a sweet, caring, gentle young man who loved and dedicated his life to his community especially his involvement with Fire and Rescue services.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Elwood and Mary Peyton Nixon; his maternal grandfather, Stanley Wright; an aunt, Vonda Wright; and an uncle, James Nixon.

Survivors include his parents, John E. Nixon and Melody Wright Nixon; his brothers, Christopher Nixon and Stephen Nixon, both of Strasburg, VA; his maternal grandmother, Patricia Strosnider of Woodstock, VA; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Grant Pearson, Zach Hottel, Phil Hottel, Antonio Tristan, Scott Schlentner, Mike Chimento, Darris Ritenour and Richard Funkhouser.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Strasburg Volunteer Rescue Squad and Strasburg Volunteer Fire Department.

The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m.
