Tempie Mae Wells, 94, of Harker Heights, formerly of Valley Mills, passed away January 31, 2016, in Temple, Texas. She will lie in state at Foss Funeral Home until noon Wednesday. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2016, in Valley Mills Cemetery under the direction of Foss Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

Tempie was born in China Spring, Texas, to the late Fennimore Jefferson "Fennie" and Lonnie Mae (Smith) Williams. She was married to Luther "Jiggs" Wells on October 13, 1938, in Clifton, Texas. Jiggs was a barber in Valley Mills for over 28 years and Tempie was employed at Valley Mills Care Center for over 17 years before she retired. Tempie and Leo Howard worked in the kitchen and the meals were so good that people in town would have lunch there. The homemade rolls were great.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988; and a son, Don Wells, in 1956.

Survivors include her daughter, Teresa Ciampi and her husband, Phill; grandchildren: Melanie Schwnidt and her husband, Jeremy, Andrew Ciampi and his wife, Stephanie, and Laura Ciampi; great-grandchildren: Bella and Braeden Schwindt, Caelum and Ryker Ciampi; other relatives and many friends.
