Mrs. Marion M. Allen Bowman, age 92 of Laceyville, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday evening, January 31, 2016, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, in Wilkes Barre, PA, where she had been taken earlier in the day. She was born in Meshoppen, PA, on March 4, 1923, the daughter of the late Byrd Allen, who passed away on August 16, 1956 and Ruth Bunnell Allen, who passed away on January 25, 1982. Growing up on Doolittle Hill, just outside of Laceyville, PA, Marion graduated from the Laceyville High School class of 1940. In 1941, Marion married Donald E. Bowman, and were married for 51 years, until his passing on October 9, 1992. For over 20 years, Marion was employed as a seamstress, at the Meshoppen Dress Factory, as well as being and housewife and homemaker for her husband and their family.For many years, she faithfully attended the Braintrim Baptist Church in Laceyville, PA, she also was a member of the Laceyville Oldest House; the Laceyville’s Women’s Club; the Transue Birthday Club; as well as volunteering for many hours throughout the years with the Tyler Memorial Hospital Auxillary. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, playing Pinochle, and cooking for, and enjoying her family dinners and get-togethers. Surviving are her daughters, Betty Hall, of Laceyville, PA; and Bonnie and her husband Keith Brodhun, of Selbyville, DE. Her grandchildren, David Hall, of Laceyville, PA; Dereck & Karen Hall, of Nichols, NY; Damon Hall of Laceyville, PA; Deidri and Mike Mullican, Camptown, PA; Denise and Mike Simpson, of Mechanicsburg, PA; Angie Miller, of Laceyville, PA; and Steve Bowman, of Laceyville, PA, also 9 great grandchildren, a 1 great-great-grandson, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and her parents she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Connie Sue Bowman, who passed away in 1947; a son Douglas K. Bowman, who passed away on October 20, 2009; her brother, Frank B. Allen who passed away on January 27, 1999; and two sisters, Evelyn Lambert who passed away in 2015; and Eleanor Pritchert.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 11:00 AM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, PA, with long time family friend and neighbor, Rev. Mark King of the Birchardville Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening, February 5, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
