Melba Joyce Miller, 93, of Sherwood Shores, was born to Arthur C. Hill and Bessie May (Carmon) Hill on October 20, 1922, in Waco, Texas.

She spent the first 10 years of her life traveling all over Texas and New Mexico, as her father was a share cropper. They settled down in Rising Star, Texas. During WWII, she joined the Navy and served 2 years until the war was over.

She is survived by her sons, Ray Rumley and wife, Rebecca of Sherwood Shores and James Rumley and wife, Betty of Las Cruces, New Mexico; son-in-law, Richard Herr and wife, Anna of Muenster; step-daughters, Sandy Thompson and husband, Mel of Melissa and Linda Duchesne of Plano; 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Bessie Hill and both husbands, (Raymond 1967) and (John C. 2004) and daughter, Joyce Herr (1974).

Special thanks to Stormy of Whitesboro/Pilot Point Home Health and grandchildren Rose and Kim and great grandchild, Julie for the personal care they provided.

Graveside Services ~ Monday, February 1, 2016, at New Rest Haven Cemetery in Gainesville, Texas with Gene Deckard officiating.
