OBITUARY

HARVEY DEGUELLE

"Harvey DeGuelle, 58, Casco village, well known in northeastern Wisconsin as an orchestra leader and musician, died in a Kewaunee county traffic accident Sunday afternoon.

According to Kewaunee county authorities, DeGuelle was a victim of an intersection collision which occurred at 12:45 p.m. on County Trunk C, about three miles north of Casco village. His death raised the county toll for 1976 to six.

DeGuelle was alone in his van-type station wagon which was traveling north on "C". He died of a skull fracture. He was thrown from his vehicle.

The other vehicle was operated by a rural Algoma woman, Verne B. Szumiel, who was driving west on a town road and was alone in her sedan. She was taken to St. Vincent hospital, Green Bay, by ambulance. Injuries were to head, face, chest and legs.

Authorities said the accident was a broadside collision at a controlled intersection. The accident is under investigation.

DeGuelle was enroute to the Rosiere kermiss. He and his orchestra were scheduled to play at LeRoy's Bar, owned and operated by his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Larry LeRoy. The van carried instruments used by the DeGuelle ochestra.

Mr. DeGuelle was a native of the Town of Lincoln where he was born Nov. 5, 1917. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry DeGuelle. Mr. DeGuelle own and operated a farm at Rosiere until a year ago when he moved to Casco.

He was employed at Walter's Farm and Home Store at Rio Creek and was a treasurer of Rosiere Cheese Factory.. He was a member of Wisconsin Orchestra Leaders association. Harv DeGuelle and his Orchestra appeared at numerous weddings, showers and public dances in northeastern Wisconsin. Besides being director, Mr. DeGuelle played the accordion. His marriage to Dorothy LaCrosse was performed Nov. 7, 1937, at St. Hubert's church, Rosiere.

His wife survives along with his parents, the Henry DeGuelles, who lived at R1, Casco, four daughters, Mrs. Larry (Judy) LeRoy, Rosiere: Mrs. Miron (Diane) Everard, Green Bay; Mrs. Lee (Terri) Veeser, r1, Casco; and Mrs. Jan (Debbie) Mastilir, Green Bay; one brother, Harold, Algoma, a sister, Mrs. Jule (Murial) Tassoul, Algoma, and five grandchildren. The visitation is underway at Weisner-Massart funeral home, Casco. There will be a wake service at 8 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral, the Rev. Simon Becker officiating, is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Hubert's church and burial will be in the parish cemetery."
