David Dunbar was the son of Thomas Dunbar and Janet Johnston. He was a distinguished sculptor from Dumfries. He died 12 Aug 1866, aged 74. A sample of his work, a beautiful sleeping child, is on the porch at St. Michael's Church. It's a copy by him of a previous work in his early days. He was a member of the Royal Academy of Carrara. He was christened in Dumfries, Scotland, on 29 Apr 1793. A Biographical Dictionary of Sculptors in Britain, 1660-1851, includes a long bio on him.
