Gary Lee Cross, 79 of Berwick, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday evening, January 27, 2016 at the Berwick Hospital Center Emergency Room.
He was born September 6, 1936 in Leonardsville, KS., a son to the late Orley and Creta (Wilt) Cross.
Gary was a Navy veteran, having served from 1954 until 1957. He married the love of his life, the former Frances Jean Steenbock , May28, 1961. A graduate of Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, where he majored in Business Administration, he was employed as a manager at Ryder Truck Leasing for many years. During his time with Ryder he and his family lived in Kansas, Ohio, and Louisiana. In 1975 they moved to Berwick, where he eventually went into business as F & G Quality Kitchens.
Fishing was his favorite hobby, but what he enjoyed most was family time, especially when it involved his grandchildren.
Gary was a member of the Berwick Rotary Club and a trustee and usher at Bower Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a kind and loving man who will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Surviving Gary is his loving wife of 54 years, the former Frances Jean Steenbock, son, Kenneth Detlef Cross, DMD and his wife, Lisa of Mountain Top, daughters: Laurie Lynne Cross-Kline and her husband, George of Stillwater and Lisa Lee Cross-Hackman and her husband, Roy of Easton, 3 grandchildren: Katie Lee Cross, Andrew Scott Cross, and Jacob Alan Hackman, step-grandchildren: Delani Marie and Sean Jamus, and brothers: Dean and his wife, Jo and Kelly, all of KS.
Visitation is 1:00 -2:00 PM Tuesday, February 2 at Bower Memorial United Methodist Church, 140 E. 2nd St., Berwick, followed immediately at 2:00 PM. by the funeral service. Pastor Ralph Hartenbach will serve as the officiant. Burial will follow at Stillwater Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Navy.
