Mary Shaddick Brest,age 88, of Neshannock Twp. passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2012 in Edison Manor. Born May 7, 1924 in New Castle she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Belle Speer Shaddick.
Mary married Robert W. Brest on August, 8, 1959 and he preceded her in death on September 19, 1995.
Mary was a 1942 graduate of New Castle High School and a 1945 graduate of Westminster College where she received her teaching degree. Mary taught French at both Neshannock and Shenango High Schools and also taught English at Bessemer High School. Mary had a passion for languages, she also loved gardening, reading and taking care of animals. She was a member of the Highland Presbyterian Church and the Le Circle Francais Club.
Survivors include a daughter Renee E. Brest of Glenwood Springs Co. and a son Robert M. Brest of Newport News Va., as well as three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, from the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Kinney officiating. Burial will follow in Castleview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Promises for Pets, P.O. Box 621, New Castle PA 16103.
