FRANKLIN HURST

Doctors Wolcott, of Milwaukee, and Paine, of Manitowoc, performed a very
serious surgical operation on a son of Mr. Wm. Hurst, of Two Rivers,
last Monday afternoon. The boy, aged about fourteen, had disease of the
hip joint, which had become so extensive that to save life it was
considered necessary to remove the head of the thigh bone-the part
entering into the formation of the hip joint-and as much of the shaft of
the bone as was found to be diseased. The head, neck and part of the
shaft was removed, and notwithstanding, the serious character of the
operation, the patient is doing well.

*********
The little son of Mr. Wm. Hurst of this village, after almost a year of
constant suffering, died last Thursday. Nearly a year ago he was
prostrated by disease of the hip, superinduced by a cold, taken while
skating with his young companions. Recently a surgical operation was
performed upon him by Drs. Wolcott, of Milwaukee, and Paine, of
Manitowoc, by which a section of the hip bone was removed, and it was
hoped that after the removal of the diseased bone the boy would recover,
but contrary to all hopes and expectations, he died. The little fellow
suffered long and intensely, and, although his death will cause sad
bereavement to the parents, to him it came as a kind of relief. His
funeral, on Sunday, was largely attended.
