He was the husband of Helen Pauline Houser. They were married August 24th, 1940 in Carroll County, Indiana.

He was also the father of Marvin Douglas, Karen Laverne, and Permella Mae.

Clyde graduated from Burnettsville High School in 1940 and was co-owner of Berkshire Implement since 1952 in Royal Center, Indiana. His business was known to be a place where you could locate hard to find IH parts. Clyde was proud that he shipped parts all around the world. Over the years, he entertained visitors at the shop from New Zealand, Sweden, France, England, Canada, and most of the 50 states.

To everyone who knew him, Clyde loved all things International Harvester. Over his lifetime, he amassed a huge collection of IH trucks, tractors and memorabilia until his auction in April 2015.

In 1990, Clyde co-founded the International Harvester Collectors Club, Inc. The club has grown to over 7,000 members worldwide and holds an annual Red Power Round Up that Clyde helped establish. Earlier, in 1978, Clyde became a founding member of Northern Indiana Power of the Past in Winamac, Indiana.
