Amelia Clark Parrish was the daughter of David Whitlock Parrish (1798-1876) and Mildred W. Gilmer (1805-1843), who married 08 Mar 1838 at probably Tennessee.

Amelia first married to a Mr. Blakey, of whom nothing is known. After Mr. Blakey died, Amelia remarried to James Andrew McKenzie (1840-1904) on 16 Aug 1864 at probably Kentucky. Amelia and James were the parents of 10 children, the names of whom eight are known, namely:

1. David Parrish McKenzie (1866-1872)
2. William John McKenzie (1868-1871)
3. Gilmer Ewing McKenzie (1870-1872)
4. Wallace Gillespie (or Willis Girand?) McKenzie (1872-1872)
5. Mary "Mamie" Louise McKenzie Potter Browder (1873-1956)
6. John Altherton McKenzie (1874-1882)
7. Katherine Amelia McKenzie Monarch (1876-1963)
8. James Andrew McKenzie (1878-1941)

Amelia's husband James served with the Confederate Army with a Texas Unit during the Civil War. He was Secretary of State of Kentucky, member of the forty fifth, forty sixth, and forty seventh Congress and procured repeal of the tariff on quinine which reduced the price from $16 a pound to about $1.00 and gave him the name of "Quinine Jim". He was Delegate at large to the Democratic National Conventions, 1884, 1888 and 1892. He was Minister to Peru from 1893 to 1897. He was regarded as the most eloquent lawyer in Kentucky in his day, and was Grandmaster of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Kentucky and held many minor positions. The family lived at "Hazelwood" a 225 acre farm on the east side of the Clarksville Pike at the Kentucky Tennessee state line (now opposite Gate 4 at Fort Campbell). In 1900 James, Amelia (mother of 10, 3 living) and son James were living at Longview, Christian County, Kentucky. In 1910 the widow Amelia was living with her married son, James Andrew McKenzie at Gordonfield, Christian County, Kentucky. Amelia died at the home of her daughter Katherine McKenzie Monarch in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana.
