Fairview Cemetery is a two part cemetery. North of Fairview Road is considered the old cemetery or Cemetery #1. South of Fairview Road is considered the new cemetery or Cemetery #2.

In 1954, as Fairview Cemetery (#1) was getting close to its capacity, the now City of Bowling Green bought acres across the street for future burials creating the newer part of Fairview known as Fairview Cemetery #2.
Within Fairview Cemetery #1 is located the Confederate Monument erected in 1875, to comemorate the 200 soldiers buried in a concentric circles around the limestone shaft.
