She grew up with her nine brothers and sisters in Benton, TN, on a farm on Route 411 in a house built by Jacob Clemmer in 1838. The house is three bricks thick. Hattie called herself "Reba Jo." She met and married Jesse Eugene Ellwood in 1949 in Washington, DC. They had three children: Kathryn Frances (January 24, 1950), Valorie Jean (October 7, 1951), and Judy Ann (December 16, 1952). Hattie Reba died on February 6, 1978, in Baltimore, MD.
