Brevard - William Carrol Batson, 79, died Friday, July 16, 2004, at his home in Brevard.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Transylvania County and a son of the late Ed and Etta Garren Batson. He was a graduate of Brevard High School, a WWII Army Veteran, a member of Carr's Hill Baptist Church and retired from Rosman Research Station. Three brothers also preceded in him death, U.G. Batson, Hubert Batson and Homer Batson.

Survivors include his wife, Blanche Stines Batson; a son, Carl James Ramsey Jr. of Las Cruces, N.M.; a daughter, Diane Ramsey Maxwell of Brevard; a brother, Woodard Batson of Ypsilanti, Mich.; three sisters, Almeta Ellenburg of Brevard, Nora Humphries of Kings Mountain and Edna Adkins of Ypsilanti.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Carr's Hill Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be in Pisgah Gardens.
