Zellwood, FL - Mabelle Bachelder Libby, 91, of Zellwood, FL, and formerly of Strong, ME and Coventry, CT, died peacefully at home on January 14, 2016 after a brief illness with her family at her side. She was born in Langtown Plantation, ME on June 26, 1924 a daughter of Mae (Nile) and Victor Bachelder. She graduated from Strong High School in 1942.
Mabelle was predeceased by the love of her life and husband, Harvey. They were happily married for over 71 years.
Mabelle enjoyed helping others, especially with her gift for knitting and crocheting, in which she was considered an expert.
She worked at the American Thread Company in Willimantic, CT and later retired after working at the University of Connecticut for many years. She also enjoyed gardening and keeping in touch with her family and many cherished friends.
Mabelle is survived by her three sons and a daughter: son George Libby of Tavares, FL; son Frank Libby of Tavares, FL; daughter Helen Rambush and her husband Loren of North Windham, CT; and son Richard Libby and his wife Regina of Coventry, CT, along with Regina’s son, Jesse Longway. She had a special place in her heart for Richard Merrifield of Buena Vista, CO, whom she treated as a fourth son. She is also survived by two grandsons, Lance Rambush of Rocky Hill, CT and Eric Rambush and his wife Allison and their daughter Kailyn of North Windham, CT, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Stella Huff and Nellie Pinkham, both of Strong, ME, foster brother Stillman Johnson and daughter-in-law Marian Libby.
Mabelle was a life member of the John Libby Family Association, the Strong Historical Society and the Strong American Legion Auxiliary.
