Daniel W. Klotz, 93, of Grantsville, MD, died of natural causes Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at Frostburg Village, Frostburg, MD.
Born October 10, 1922, in Bittinger, MD, he was the son of the late John and Susan (Beitzel) Klotz.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Russell; and three sisters, Bertha Rodamer, Effie Georg and Mary Brenneman.
Surviving are Danny's wife, Hazel (Broadwater) Klotz; one son, Charles (Judy) Klotz; one daughter, Pamela (Roger) Cutler; four grandsons and five great-grandchildren.
Danny and his Uncle Lewie built his house in Grantsville in 1948, the same year he married Hazel.
Danny first sold sauerkraut made with his sister, Bertha and produce from his parent's farm. Danny worked with his brothers, mining coal and farming.
He became interested in a University of Maryland extension program in animal husbandry, which resulted in a career with Sire Power Inc. He was active with the Casselman Valley Sportsman's Club, which he was a founding member, the Grantsville Vol. Fire Dept. and Garrett County Fair Board.
Upon retirement, Danny remained involved in the community with the Rotary, Penn Alps, Savage River Whitewater Trials and lawn care at the Grantsville Cemetery.
Danny loved Garrett Co. and it's people, he was one of many that made it a great place to live. Weekends at his house were always lively. He liked to have picnics, usually attended by many, where grilled steaks “well done” and steamed shrimp, were his specialty.
Danny and Hazel were awarded Maryland's Most Beautiful People by the State of Maryland. He loved to hunt, fish and as a hobby, he produced Maple Syrup. Danny was a member of the Salisbury Parish, Christ Lutheran Church, Grantsville, MD.

Private services will be held and his internment will be in the Grantsville Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church with Rev. Ingrid Chenoweth officiating. Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, are in charge of arrangements.
