Leroy Patrick Simoneaux died Wednesday, January 15, 2014 in Reserve, Louisiana at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home, where he has resided for the last 3 years. He was 84, born September 5, 1929 in Plaquemine, Louisiana. He was the son of the late Alvin Paulin Simoneaux of Brusle St. Vincent and the late Maude Anne Keating of Saint James. Leroy was raised in the old Turnerville section of town and graduated from Plaquemine High School where he was a member of the State Championship Boxing team. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marine and also the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. Upon discharge, he was married for over 50 years to the former Theresa Mary Trabeaux of Bayou Goula, who preceded him in death on January 18, 2004. Leroy was the father of Shelley S. Kling of Brittany; Cindy S. Schexnaydre of Burnside; Mindy S. Aldridge of Gonzales and Lee P. Simoneaux of Baton Rouge; father-in-law of Julian P. Schexnaydre, Jr. and Randall J. Aldridge; grandfather of Jay M. Schexnaydre of New Orleans; Ryan J. Aldridge of Stuart, Florida; Kip J. Schexnaydre of Houston, Texas; Simone L. Aldridge of Gonzales; Dirk P. Schexnaydre of Gonzales; Danielle Kling Bourque of Prairieville; Morgan Simoneaux Bérard of Broussard; Alyssa A. Kling of Brittany and Sloane A. Simoneaux of New Iberia. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Beverly S. Fourroux of Plaquemine and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his brother, Percy J. Simoneaux, sister-in-law Claudette N. Simoneaux and brother-in-law Arnold J. "Buck" Fourroux, Jr. all of Plaquemine. Leroy began a career in the petro-chemical industry in 1953 when he moved to Luling where he resided for 9 years. In 1962, he relocated to Gonzales where he resided for 45 years. He retired from Borden Chemicals in 1991 and became a very active member of the East Ascension High School Booster Club and attended all EA sporting events with regularity. An ardent fan of EAHS since its inception he was acknowledged for his dedication as a "Super Spartan" in 2008. In 2003, he received the "Volunteer of the Year" Award for Ascension Parish. Leroy was also a 50+ year season ticket holder of LSU football. In 2007, Leroy married for a second time to Mrs. Winnie Mae Smith Brignac of Lake, who over the last 6 years brought much joy into his life. He is also survived by her six children and her large extended family. He resided with Winnie in Lake, Louisiana for 3 years before his illness required him to move to the Veterans Home. Family and friends are invited to attend the wake services to be held Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm at the Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales. Wake services will resume on Monday morning, January 20, 2014 from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Gonzales. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 noon, followed by entombment in Hope Haven Mausoleum in Gonzales with Military Honors. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons: Jay, Kip and Dirk Schexnaydre, Ryan Aldridge and Sloane Simoneaux and his grandson-in-law, Devon Bourque. In lieu flowers the family requests donations be made in the name of Leroy P. Simoneaux to the "East Ascension Booster Club" 612 E. Worthey Road, Gonzales, Louisiana 70737.
