Mrs. Peno was employed at Tru- Stitch Footwear until her retirement after more than 37 years.
Born Nov. 9, 1917, in Westville, daughter of John F. and Ethel E. Nokes Avery, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting and collecting four-leaf clovers.
Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Thelma and Paul Benware, Malone; four sisters, Mrs. Ernest (Ruth) Marlow, Brushton, Grace Griffin, Westville, Mrs. Gerald (Frieda) Capstraw, Central Square, and Flora Ceretto, Fultonville; three granddaughters, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Three brothers, Alton, Lawrence and Davis Avery, four sisters, Anna Avery, Marjorie Reynolds, Lillian Nicklaw and Wilma Freer, three stepbrothers, Stanley, Julius and Clarence Avery, and a stepsister, Viola Green, died before her.
A graveside service will be at noon Thursday in Coal Hill Cemetery, Westville.
There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home.
Donations may be made to Malone Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department or Franklin County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
