Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - April 10, 1941 - Tribute to Mrs David Hughes, 35, popular Storm Lake woman, will be paid today (Thursday) at services at Lakeside Presbyterian church. Mrs Hughes, a resident here for 10 years, passed away Monday evening at her home, 718 Erie street. She had been ill about 9 months and for the past few weeks she was critically ill. Interment will be in the Storm Lake cemetery.
Dorothy Loraine Jurgens, daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Jurgens was born at Luverne, MN on May 5, 1905. When about 5 years old she moved to Pine City, MN with her parents and resided there about 2 years.
The family then moved to Everly where the remainder of her childhood was spent. She graduated from the Everly high school. Following she took a normal training course at Buena Vista college and then taught in the schools at Everly and Rembrandt.
She was married to David Hughes of Storm Lake on June 1, 1921 and has since lived continuously in Storm Lake.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a foster daughter, Janis (Mrs Don LaChance); her parents Mrs and Mrs Frank Jurgens of Los Angeles; three sisters: Mrs Dean Cox, Perry; Mrs Norman Steine, Laverne, MN; and Mrs Robert Kirkwood of Los Angeles; and 5 brothers: Clarence, Frank, James, Harold, and Robert Jurgens, all of Los Angeles.
