Hannah Thomas was b 20 Oct 1814, North Haven, the d/o Capt Seth Thomas & Hannah Dyer. She d 28 Aug 1867, North Haven.

Hannah married Capt Robert "Bob" M Ames on 28 Oct 1831, North Haven. Bob was b 4 Jul 1810, North Haven, the s/o Joseph Ames & Elsy Burgess. He d 9 Mar 1886, North Haven.

At the time of his marriage in 1831, he was of Vinalhaven.

On 12 Oct 1835, Robert Ames and Perez Babbidge were witnesses of a 10 acres deed from Nathaniel Ames to the towns people of North Haven for land adjoining the Meeting House.

In 1840, Robert is on North Haven between Richard Brown, Jr & Harvey Ames. He has 2 boys under 5, himself between 20 & 30, 2 daughters under 5, wife between 20 & 30, and one elderly woman between 70 & 80, who is noted "as idiotic and at public charge."

Decr 6, 1845: At conference meeting,... an accusation was brought against Robert Ames and his wife for ill-treatment to said child placed under their care by the town, for which accusation they were excluded from the church. James Thomas, Church Clerk Baptist Church Records, North Haven.

29 Nov 1848: Bill of Sale between Robert Ames & Joseph Ames: Know all men by these presents that I, Robert Ames of North Haven in the County of Waldo, yeoman, in consideration of the sum of $80 to me in hand paid by Joseph Ames of the same place, at and before the sealing and delivery of the presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have bargained and sold and delivered ...to the said Joseph Ames the following stock, to wit: 3 cows, 1 heifer two years old, 1 yearling heifer, 1 horse and 20 sheep, it being the stock on the farm on which I now live.....[signed] Robert Ames Signed, sealed and delivered in presence of us, Perez Babbidge, Eliza Babbidge.

In 1855, Robert Ames was included in the North Haven tax assessment. He owned 37 acres with 1 house and 1 barn; 3 3-year-old cows, 1 1-year-old cow, 1 horse valued at $75. He owned a 52-ton vessel named Tiger valued at $600. His real estate was valued at $1000; personal property at $785. Total of $1785.

In 1860, 49-year-old Robert & his 44-year-old wife, Hannah are on North Haven where he is a master fisherman. He has real estate valued at $1500 and personal property valued at $4000. With them are children Lewis (ae 19, master fisherman), Freeman (ae 17, fisherman), James H (ae 13) and Rosa (ae 1). Also living with them is Eleanor Dyer ae 8. Residing next door is their daughter, Mary & her husband, Lewis MacDonald.

In 1870, 59-year-old Robert is a farmer on North Haven with real estate valued at $1800 and personal property of $1000. Wife Harriet A Is age 51 and daughter Rose is age 11. Also with them is his son-in-law William Robbins (ae 39) & his daughter (Robert's granddaughter) Olive J (ae 9).

On 27 March 1871, Robert Ames is found signing the petition with other North Haven Citizens recommending that Warren C Perrigo be appointed to the office of Trial Justice of Knox County.

11 Sept 1872, Deed of Personal Property from Robt Ames to Rosetta Ames: convey unto my said daughter Rosetta Ames all and singular the goods and chattels contained in the following schedule, marked and numbered therein, specified and set forth. To wit: 1 Bureau (No 1, marked R A on the back), 6 chairs (No 2 to 7, marked R A under the bottom), 2 Feather beds (No 8 to 9, marked R A on the side), and Clothes for making up of the same on the margin. 1 Gold Necklace (Marked R A on the ribbon), 2 Looking Glasses (No 11 to 12, marked R A on the side), 1 Tea Set (No 13, marked R A on the side of each piece), 2 Tables (No 14 to 15, marked R A under the leaf), and every article of goods and chattels of every name and nature belonging to her deceased mother, late of North Haven. To have and to hold the above described goods and chattels to her and repudiate (?) from the interference and controll [sic] of her future husband and to her heirs and assigns to their own use forever. 11 Sept 1872, Deed of Personal Property from Robt Ames to Harriet A Ames: for consideration of the love and affection which I bear to my wife Harriet W Ames of North Haven, County and State aforesaid, and for divers [sic] other goods and valued considerations do hereby give, grant, and convey unto my said wife Harriet A Ames all and singular the one third part of all personal property now in my possession and as herein specified now in my possession and as herein specified and set forth. To wit: One third part of the meat stock now on the premises consisting of two 3-year-old steers, two cows and the sheep and lambs in the same. Also one third part of all the promissory notes that I have in my possession and all money that I have at hand and in the savings bank in Rockland. To have and to hold the above described property to her sole and separate use and from the interference and controll [sic] of the said Robt Ames, her present husband and to heirs and assigns to their own use forever.

30 May 1873: I Robert Ames and Harriet A Ames, wife of Robert Ames, agree with the Selectmen of the Town of North Haven, to let Dura Brown have a private way across our pasture, face of damage, the said way to be for the use of said Brown and family and any other individual who wished to travel the said road and the said D Brown to build the said way as he thinks best. In 1880, 69-year-old Robert and 63-year-old Harriet A are residing on North Haven where he is working as a farmer. 2nd wife Harriet A cites both of her parents were born in Massachusetts. Robert is still a farmer by occupation. They are residing with the family of Gregory Pooler (ae 36, working in lobster factory), his wife Sarah F (ae 30) and their 2 children Charles G (ae 6) and Eldora (ae 3).

In April 1886, Eleazer Courtney Crabtree was appointed executor of Robert Ames' estate. Knox Co Probate Court Case Number 2675

In 19 June 1886, Eleazer Crabtree as executor sold to Robert's son Lewis Ames for $175 2/3 of the cattle and sheep. 1 cook stove, 1 shade, 1/2 plow, 2 scythes, 1 manure fork, 1 iron boiler, 1 wheelbarrow, 1 ton of hay, 1 drag rake, 3 pitch forks, 1 steer yoke, 1 ox chain, 1 ox wagon, 2 joiner planes and 1 draw shave.
