PIGEON FALLS — Richard Allen Kjos "Dick," age 76, of Pigeon Falls died on Thursday, August 3, 2006, in the Tri-County Memorial Hospital in Whitehall, Wis. He was born on August 18, 1929, in the town of Pigeon to Albert and Clara (Estenson) Kjos.

He served in WW II in Japan from 1946 to 1949 and in the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in 1952 from the 11th Airborne Division and 127th Airborne engineer paratrooper in WW II.

Richard attended Central High School in La Crosse. He was a member of the American Legion Roy L. Vingers Post 52 and the Moose Lodge Chapter 1920, both of La Crosse.

He worked at the Trane Co. for 18 years, UW Stout for eight years and Shimanski Trane Co. as a troubleshooter until his retirement in 1989.

Richard was united in marriage to Barbara McConnell on June 12, 1954, in La Crosse. Barbara preceded him in death on May 12, 1993. He was united in marriage to Ardis (Back) Nordby on November 20, 1995, in La Crosse.

Dick enjoyed hobbies, which included woodworking, making dollhouses, bird houses and other crafts. Most of all, he enjoyed his wife and family and many Kjos functions.

Richard is survived by his wife, Ardis of Pigeon Falls; four sons, Randolph (Marge) of Hokah, Minn., Richard (Jane) of La Crosse, Eric of Whitehall and Matthew (Kelly) of La Crosse; one daughter, Julie Kjos, also of La Crosse; five grandchildren, Colleen, Cory, Ian, Bailey and Teagen; four step grandchildren, Ken, Heather, Sarah and Rayna; and one great-grandchild Briar Kjos. Also surviving are one brother, Vernon of Boscobel, Wis.; six sisters, Adeline Tenneson, Delores (Robert) Osweiler, Dorothy (Clayton) Every, all of Onalaska, Wis., Beverly Davis of La Crosse, Audrey (Bing) Wedwich of New Brighton, Minn., and Carol O'Brien of Oakdale, Minn.

Mr. Kjos was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Kjos; daughter, Katherine Marie Kjos; two brothers, Alf and Paul Kjos; and three sisters Margaret, Marion and Maxine.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 7, 2006, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in La Crosse. The Rev. Kristine Fahey will be officiating. Burial will be at the Neshonic Cemetery in West Salem.

Visitation will be on Sunday August 6, 2006, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall, and one hour prior to the services on Monday at the church.
