Elizabeth was born to Rev. James Parker Elder (1807-1869) and Mary Ann Parker Elder (1815-1883)

According to Upshur County history, Elizabeth's family, the Elders, traveled from Georgia to Texas about 1851 with the Morgan family in a wagon train, along with several other families. Traveling with them were the Todd,Phillips, White, Cheatam, King and Edwards families. They all settled in the West Mountain area of Upshur County. So Elizabeth's and Richard's parents were pioneers together traveling to Texas.

Elizabeth married Richard Washington Morgan about 1854 and to them were born the following children.

Laura 1855
Charles Edmond 1856
Anna 1857
Mary Ann 1858
John 1859
Adelia 1860
Margaret 1862
Sarah M. 1865
William T. 1867
Ellen 1868
James 1869
Richard Monroe 1871
Louisa A. 1875
