Susie Smith Shipes, 70, of Jesup, Ga., died Saturday, January 16, 2016, in the Wayne Memorial Hospital after a short illness. The Wayne Co., Ga., native was a member of the Crossroads Church of God and was a Savannah Morning News carrier for 25 years. She was a former employee with Golden Living Center, enjoyed being “Grandma Sue” and being with her family. She was predeceased by her parents, Jake and Unave Westberry Smith, brothers, Randy Smith and Douglas Smith.



Survivors are 2 daughters, Sandra Shipes, Tammy (Joey) Thornton, both of Jesup, Ga., sisters, Pat Fore, Frances Friese, and Martha Smith, all of Jesup, Ga., Jessie Horner of Bellfonte, Pa., 3 brothers, Wayne Smith of Jesup, Ga., Lamar Smith of Odum, Ga., D, J. Smith of Kingsland, Ga., 2 grandchildren, Tara (Keith) Duncan and Tyler Thornton, 2 great-grandchildren, A. J. and Ailey Duncan, several nieces and nephews.



Funeral services will be 11 am, Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at the Crossroads Church of God with Pastor Hulet Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Spring Grove Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Robert Swenson, Dylan Swenson, Keith Duncan, William Friese, Hank Sutton, and Zachary Friese. Honorary pallbearers will be, Senior Adult Sunday School Class of Crossroads Church of God.



Visitation will be 10 to 11 am, Tuesday at the church prior to services.



The Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup, Ga., is in charge of the services.
