A graveside service will be conducted on Sunday at 2 PM in Pleasant Hill Christian Church Cemetery in Liberty, NC with Gerald Pike officiating.
A native of Randolph County, Mrs. Loy lived in Washington and most recently in Greenville. She had attended both Elon College and East Carolina University. Mrs. Loy worked as the head Librarian at Brown Library in Washington for more than 20 years retiring in the mid 1980’s. During her tenure, she assisted in the transition of Brown Library to a city-owned public library. During the 1976 Washington Bicentennial, she co-authored the book “Washington & the Pamlico”. In addition, she served on the Washington City Council for 3 terms. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Greenville. As a voracious reader, she was a member of O. Henry Book Club in Washington and later Clio Book Club in Greenville. In addition, she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Mrs. Loy will be fondly remembered for never meeting a stranger and was a friend to everyone she met.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Loy was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Loy, Jr. in 1970, a son, William H. Loy, III, a daughter, Jo Loy Rountree, a brother, Glenn Fogleman and a sister, Oleta Fogleman.
She is survived by Son, Eric C. Loy and wife, Robin, of Greenville; Grandchildren, Scott Rountree, Wendy Boyce, and Bradley Loy; Great-grandchild, Victor Rountree; Daughter-in-law, Sharon Loy; Son-in-law, Earl Rountree; and Sister, Maxine Pike of Siler City, NC.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 3 to 5 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and following the service at the cemetery.
