James Cecil Bounds peacefully passed away at the age of 84 at his home in Dixon, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 9, 2016, after a short illness.

Born in Flat Branch, Illinois, on September 27, 1931, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950 where he served 20 years, retiring in February 1970 as Tech Sergeant and honorably served his Country in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Upon retiring from the U.S. Air Force, James went to work for the University of California, Davis where he worked for 20 years, retiring in 1990.

In his spare time, James loved to serve his community, serving on the Dixon Planning Commission from 1984 to 1993; Trustee on the Silveyville Cemetery District for 34 years; and honored along with his brother, Don as Dixon Citizens of the Year in 1985. He was a Master Mason in the Yolo Masonic Lodge since 1961 as well as a Shriner with the Bel Ali Shrine.

James was loved by all who knew him, and he never met a stranger. You could find him any given weekday morning at the A Street Deli or Solano Baking Company having a cup of coffee with friends.

He was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan. You could often find him planted on the couch taking in a game, always wearing his Chicago Cubs hat.

James is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Letha Bounds; their children, Beverly Tamplen, Barbara Moore (Gary), and James Bounds Jr. (Sally); grand-children, Jeffery Tamplen, Gary Moore (Samantha), Misty Hoffmann (Scott), Vanessa Parrish, James Bounds III (Crystal), and Jason Bounds; 18 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother, Willie Bounds (Betty) and sister, Betty Kay Richardson.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Ruby Katherine Bounds; his brothers, Donald Bounds, Genie Bounds; sister, Lois Francis; granddaughter, Terri Lynn Tamplin; great granddaughter, Kelsea Peters; and son-in-law, J.B. Tamplen.
