He was born on June 2, 1921, in Boone, Iowa the son of Marion Franklin and Dora (Appenzeller) Parks
On October 4, 1942 he married Muriel Pearson at the First Evangelical Free Church in Boone, Iowa.
Marion graduated from Boone High School and the Illinois College of Optometry, in Chicago, Illinois. He joined the Navy upon graduation and served in several locations stateside, until the end of the war. His wife, Muriel, was able to join him, working as a nurse, wherever he was stationed.
The couple returned to Boone, where Marion began his Optometry practice alongside his uncle, Dr. Jim Nutt. In 1967, he and Dr. Dennis Kollbaum became partners. In 1984, Dr. Jim Barker joined them. Dr. Parks retired in 1987, after a long and satisfying career.
Marion had many hobbies including photography, flying, woodworking, fishing and spending time at his Minnesota cabin. But, most of all, he loved and valued time with his family.
He was a devoted husband, father and friend. The love of Dr. Parks's life from the age of 14 was "Mimi." The caregivers, at the Eastern Star said they will miss hearing him tell her, "I love you, Mama." An example of true love to all who knew them.
Marion was a longtime member and faithful servant of the First Evangelical Free Church in Boone and followed his Life Verse: "He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?" Micah 6:8
His parents and one sister, Rosemary preceded him in death..
Marion is survived by his wife of 73 years, Muriel; 2 daughters, Susie Keraus and husband Mike and Barbi Davis and husband Rick; 4 grandchildren, Barb Farup and husband Matt, Martha McGuigan and husband Craig, Josh Davis and wife Erin, and Andy Davis and wife Kristen; 7 great-grandchildren, Jack Farup, Brady Jane Farup, Will McGuigan, Pearson McGuigan, Lucinda Davis, Arthur Davis, and Drew Davis.
