Jean Payne Abbott, age 88, of Maryville, TN, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016.

Jean Abbott was known for her unwavering love of God and family, delicious cooking, and Southern hospitality. She hosted a weekly Sunday lunch for well over 40 years that was envied by most and attended by each member of her immediate family. From dinner rolls to fried okra, Jean made sure there was as much love around the table each Sunday afternoon as there was food. She and her late husband, Willard, shared the same love of people, welcoming visitors each week to their home to buy or sell horses, talk about gardening, or share stories.

Jean had a keen eye for detail, which served her well in her 22 years as accountant for the Maryville City School System. After retirement, she enjoyed catering and operating Willajean Farm carriage and horse business alongside her husband. Jean never seemed to rest, always working hard on their farm in West Millers Cove or later on their farm in the southern part of the county.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Willard Abbott, Sons: Larry Abbott and Brent Abbott.

Survivors include Children: Sandra Elder (Roger), Terry Buchanan (John); Grandchildren, Ashley Robertson (David), Matt Buchanan (Sylvia), John Elder (Julie), Sarah Chabot (Andy), Allison Buchanan, Angela Cottrell (Jason), and Luke Buchanan; 8 Great Grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 15th from 4:30 – 6:30 at Smith Trinity Chapel with the celebration of life service beginning at 6:30 pm. Family and friends will assemble for entombment at Grandview Cemetery at 11am on Saturday, January 16th.
